About British Traditional Wicca

Preserving, sustaining, and cultivating the traditions of British Wicca in Canada and beyond.

The New Wiccan Church — Canada

The New Wiccan Church — Canada (NWC - Canada) is neither a tradition nor a coven, but a professional and service organisation by and for members of branches of British Traditional Wicca. Established as a church in May 2024, the NWC - Canada is an independent branch of the New Wiccan Church — International, which was established in 1973.

The NWC - Canada has active chapters across the country, including Toronto, Kingston, and Oshawa in Ontario, as well as communities in Port Moody and Cranbrook in British Columbia and Calgary in Alberta. Each chapter hosts its own open Sabbat rituals, potluck feasts, and community events.

Purpose

The purpose of the NWC - Canada is to preserve, sustain, and cultivate British Traditional Wicca through:

British Traditional Wicca

British Traditional Wicca (BTW) encompasses a family of initiatory traditions tracing their lineage to the revival of Witchcraft in mid-20th-century England. The following traditions are currently accepted within the New Wiccan Church:

Accepted Traditions

Gardnerian Wicca — Lines

Additional Traditions

Because British Traditional Wiccan covens and initiates are as individual as the humans who comprise them, this list can never be guaranteed complete. Covens hive, offshoot lines and traditions develop, and new traditions are recognised from time to time.

If you are an initiate of a tradition not listed here and wish to join the NWC, please contact president@newwiccanchurchcanada.com.

Ministry

The New Wiccan Church — Canada recognises and respects British Traditional Wiccan initiates’ status as clergy by providing ministerial certificates to members.

Members of the church may also receive identification cards to assist them in visiting Wiccans and Pagans who are hospitalised or imprisoned.

The NWC - Canada is currently working towards provincial accreditation for members to become Registered Wedding Officiants in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.
